So, you want to join the “make money from home” craze? Nobody can blame you for this. There are definite benefits of working from home. With many ways to do this, you should be able to find an opportunity that fits your skill set. That being said, you must be aware of the many scams that are circulating the internet.

Here are five real ways to earn money from home:

1. Become a freelancer. Do you have any skills that you can offer on a freelance basis? Popular options include freelance writing, web design, editing, and coding. But don’t stop there. If you have any other skill, you should see if you can put it to good use. You may be surprised at how many companies are hiring freelancers as a way of getting their work done since this often allos them to offer lower wages with no benefits at the same time.

2. Become a consultant. This is similar to being a freelancer, but in most cases includes an entirely different set of tasks. Generally speaking, a consultant is more involved. Along with this, a consultant usually makes more money. You can consult companies on a wide variety of things, with some of the most common subjects being sales, marketing, and human resource related tasks.

3. Data entry. Companies all over the world are looking for work-at-home professionals who can perform data entry, day after day. If you find a few good clients, you can make a lot of money with this work-at-home job.

Tip: Data entry positions are often times targeted by scam artists. If you are asked to pay a fee to get started, run in the other direction. Any real opportunity does not require an initiation fee.

4. Customer service. As a cost-cutting measure, some companies are doing away with call centers and instead hiring work-at-home individuals. The basic idea of this job is simple. Calls are routed to a phone line in your home. From there, you are required to act as a customer service representative, just as you would if you were in a call center environment. Don’t worry, your company will give you full training and all the resources you need to succeed.

5. Sell on eBay. Do you have items around your home that you have been aching to get rid of? Do you enjoy scouring garage sales for antiques and other valuables? If so, selling on eBay may be the perfect career for you. With a computer and the right inventory, making a living off of eBay is possible. In fact, there are hundreds of thousands of people already doing this. The only problem is finding the right products that will sell well on eBay. In the past 5 years, eBay has been extremely watered down by large retailers, but hard-to-find items and popular electronics still do very well on eBay. The key is finding a popular niche and knowing where to find those niche products at a discounted price, so you can make enough profit on each sale for it to be worth it.
